Abstract

A fertilizer comprises the solid adduct of urea with the salt or complex of an amine with a long-chain aliphatic carboxylic acid containing at least 8 carbon atoms. The fertilizer may be employed as an aqueous solution. The amine may be primary, secondary or tertiary, and may be present in large excess over the stoichiometric equivalent. The adducts may be prepared by dissolving the long chain acid in an amine, followed by mixing the resulting liquid with finely-divided urea to form a paste which is kept above the melting point of the amine salt until solidification has occurred.
