965,876. Moulding forming shoulders. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GESSELLSCHAFT. April 2, 1963 [April 3, 1962], No. 13015/63. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A method of making a forming shoulder for forming strip material into tubes comprises forming a mould using a mandrel and a foil material and filling the mould thus formed with a settable plastics material which solidifies without any marked shrinkage e.g. acrylates, nylon and epoxy resins. A mandrel 1 is enclosed by a cardboard sleeve 2 having adhesive on its outer surface, and a sheet of flexible foil 3 is secured to the adhesive outer surface such that one end portion 15 of the foil forms a tube and the other end 18 forms a flat surface extending downwardly at an angle α to the axis of the mandrel to join the lower portion of the tube at a fold 19, 19a, with curvilinear side portions 20, 21 of the foil blending with the flat rear portion 18 and the fold 19, 19a. The fold is not absolutely sharp but has a radius R 2 and a border portion of the fold has a concave shape with radius R 1 . The edges of the foil can be overlapped 16, 17 (Fig. 2) or can extend radially outwardly from the mandrel (Fig. 7, not shown). The foil can have a ridged or a smooth surface.
