Abstract

965,159. Folding chairs. R. J. TURNEY. Nov. 23, 1962, No. 44441/62. Heading A4J. [Also in Division B7] A folding structure such as a deckchair, car seat, shopping or golf trolley, pushchair or pram comprising a front leg frame 4, a rear leg frame 5, a back frame 8 and a rigid sub frame has one end of the back frame 8 pivotally connected to one end of the rear leg frame 5 at 7, and one end of the front leg frame 4 pivotally connected to the back frame 8 at a point 10a intermediate the ends thereof so that the pivotal connection between the rear leg frame 5 and the back frame 8 can be moved away from the front leg frame 4, also the sub frame is pivotally connected to the front and rear leg frames 4 and 5 to permit movement of these frames into superposed relationship to one another and to the sub frame, the arrangement being such that in the erect condition of the structure the pivotal connection between the rear leg frame 5 and the back frame 8 lies adjacent the front leg frame 4. A push chair, as shown, in which the sub frame forms a beam 13 and the spacer bars are formed as parallel bars spaced by blocks 27 and engage guide strips 26 secured to vertical ribs 23 provided on the walls of the room and having felt pads 24 and manually operated hinged sealing flaps 25 which clamp the edges of the sheets and may be interlocked by limit switches with the winding gear to prevent raising of the curtain. Lazy tongs linkages 28, to control folding, and strain-relieving ropes secured to the spacers and to the beam 12 may be provided and, in a modification, a curtain is provided at each side of a structural beam, lever-operated cam, toggle &c. means being provided to force the curtains against seals on the beam and the hoisting arrangement being common or synchronized so that both curtains are operated together. seat is locked in its erect position by engaging a pivot pin 7 with a hooked locking piece 19. The chair is folded by pushing the frame 8 forwards after unhooking the locking piece 19, and it may be locked in its folded position by a strap or clamp. A seat squab 14 is supported by bars 10, 11, 13 and is hingedly connected to a back rest 16 which is secured to a supporting bar 12 by a strap 17.
