A garden sprinkler comprises a water guide member 3, Fig. 4, surmounted by a spray spreader 5 whose undersurface is made up of the curved surfaces of three or more conical segments 6 having a common apex coincidental with the axis of the water conductor, each segment having projecting ribs or grooves radiating from the axis to the base of each conical segment on the curved surfaces thereof, and a deflector mounted on top of the spreader rotatable by the force of water leaving the spreader and presenting a water deflecting surface at various angles to the water impinging it so as to provide even distribution of water over the sprinkled area. Spreaders to provide various shapes of sprinkled area are shown in Figs. 2a to 2f. The spreader Fig. 2a, 2b has three conical sections and will sprinkle over a triangular area while the spreader in Fig. 2c, 2d (not shown) has four conical segments and sprinkles a rectangular area. Projecting ribs 8 or alternatively grooves 8 assist in maintaining even radial flow of water over all the curved surface of each segment. The spreaders may be circular in plan form or be cut away at 18 to form a triangular, rectangular or other polygonal shape. Two bladed deflectors are shown in Figs. 3a, 3b. Water is fed through the aperture 14 in the sprinkler body 13 to reservoir 12, out through annular aperture 4 surrounding water conductor 3, is deflected radially outwards by the spreader and further deflected by the rotating deflector blades on leaving the spreader.
