Abstract

Propylene is polymerized to predominantly isotactic polymer, at 30-200 DEG C, with a catalyst consisting of (a) TiCl3 or TiCl4, (b) an aluminium alkyl or dialkylmonochloride and (c) a glycol ether dispersed in an inert hydrocarbon medium, the atomic ratios Al=Ti and Al: ether O being respectively 1:1 to 10:1 and 200:1 to 15:1. The polymerization may be effected in presence of 5-100 p.p.m. molecular hydrogen, based on the weight of the reaction medium. Specified components are (b) AlEt3, AlEt2Cl, AlPr3, Al i-Bu3 and (c) the dimethyl ethers of ethylene, diethylene and tetraethylene glycols. The catalyst system is claimed per se.
