An upholstered pad, seat, mattress, or the like comprises upper and lower pads A, B of rubber or plastic foam material, several springs C disposed between the pads A, B, and the inner surface of one or both pads being formed with inwardly extending projections D located between the springs, the projections on both pads, or the projections on one pad and the inner surface of the opposite pad, being vertically spaced so that the projections are compressed only after the springs have been compressed a predetermined amount. The projections D may be formed by parallel ribs between the rows of springs C or longitudinal and transverse ribs or truncated pyramids disposed between the springs C.
