Abstract

963,004. Air filters. FRAM CORPORATION. June 25, 1963 [Aug. 13, 1962], No. 25243/63. Addition to 895,134. Heading BIT. [Also in Division E2] An air filter comprises a fibrous filter batt 20, Fig. 6 supported by a holder comprising two similar quadrangular frames 12, 12<SP>1</SP> each provided with a pervious metal sheet 11, 11<SP>1</SP>, each frame, Fig. 3, comprising a strip of thick stiff paper that is folded along two spaced longitudinal lines to form a trough for the marginal portions of the associated metal sheet and having a wide outer wall 13 and two symmetrically inclined side walls 14, 15, the strip also being folded transversely to form the four frame sides, each edge of the batt being engaged by the frames when the latter abut one another with the batt therebetween. The side walls 14, 15 have flanges 16, 17 which are secured face to face with adhesive such as a heat-sealing adhesive or a latex adhesive not requiring the application of heat. The batt 20 is preferably formed of highly crimped acetate fibres from about ¢-4 inches long retained by a bonding agent. The frames 12, 12<SP>1</SP> are preferably hingedly secured together along a pair of adjacent sides thereof by an adhesive strip 19, the opposite pair of adjacent sides being provided with a flexible moulded plastic latch 21. The filter may be disposed to extend across an air conduit, Fig. 9 (not shown), having a slot in one wall for receiving the filter and having L-shaped metal guideways for the filter.
