Abstract
962,371. Hydraulic couplings. ROCKWELL STANDARD CORPORATION. Dec. 18, 1962 [Dec. 28, 1961], No. 47686/62. Heading F2C. A bladed fluid torque transmitting wheel comprises separate inner and outer coaxial blade support members with a plurality of fixed blades secured therebetween by separable abutting surfaces. An outer semi-toroidal blade support member 44, which may have an integral hub 84 formed with driving splines or gear teeth 88, is formed with a number of conical axially-extending posts 56 which pass through hollow blades 48 and an inner semitoroidal support member 51. The blades are located by a circumferential ledge portion 58 of the member 44 and by tongues 78 engaging a groove 74 and are retained by deforming the end 66 of the post 56 against a washer 82 and the inner blade support. In modifications, the post 56 may be of other than circular cross-section and may be other than radial and parallel to the wheel axis. The blades may be of sheet metal or formed to blade configuration by casting or moulding and may be hollow or be shaped to fit the particular form of post. The blades and support members may be of steel, cast iron, light alloy or plastic and may be moulded or stamped to shape. In a further modification, an outer shell 174, Fig. 13, is welded to the outer blade support 170 and has stamped out posts 182 passing through apertures in the members 170 and 198. The blades may be located by a ring 210 secured to the outer support and the assembly may be held together by a circumferential split ring engaging notches in the ends of the posts 182 and bearing on the inner support 198.
