Abstract
961,559. Radar. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. May 12, 1961 [May 17, 1960], No. 17408/61. Heading H4D. In an auto-tracking radar system in which target signals received by an aerial array 1 are combined in a differential coupler 3 to produce these sets of signals representative of the sum # of the signals from the four aerial elements and of an elevation difference signal #S and a bearing-difference signal #G, the sum signal is multiplied separately by the two difference signals in a receiver 5 to produce respective control signals for the elevation and bearing servo-devices which control the aerial scanning mechanism. In the receiver 5 the output signals from coupler 3 on channels 6, 7 and 8 which consist of pulse modulations of the frequency F of the radar transmitter 4, are fed to directional couplers 11, 12 and 13 to which the output of an oscillator 9 of frequency f1 is also supplied and the outputs from the couplers, having a frequency F-f1, are supplied to amplifiers 14, 15 and 16 the amplifier 14 in the sum # channel 7 being provided with an AGC circuit 17 which also controls amplifiers 15 and 16. The output from amplifier 14 is then mixed with an oscillation of frequency f2 from oscillator 22 in a frequency converter 18 and either the sum or difference frequency F - f1+f2 or F - f1-f2 of the output from 18 selected by filter 19 and supplied to frequency converters 23, 23<1> in identical units 20, 21 concerned respectively, with producing elevation and bearing control signals. The frequency converters 23, 23<1> have, as a second input, the outputs of amplifiers 15 and 16 fed through respective dephasers 24, 24<1> and filters 25, 25<1> select the frequency f2 in the output of converters 23, 23<1>. This frequency, which is modulated by the target. echo pulses, is then combined in adders 26, 26<1> with the frequency f2 from oscillator 22 (fed via dephasers 27, 27<1>) and the outputs of the adders, after rectification in 28, 28<1> are fed to pulse stretchers 29, 29<1> the respective outputs of which comprise the required control signals for the elevation and bearing servo control devices.
