Abstract

In the manufacture of a glass object with an electrical conductor sealed through it, the conductors 11 are inserted into the bore of a mould 25, through passages 29 to a chamber 27, a glass cylinder 30 is heated in the mould by mixers 14 to form a molten mass 31 and pressure is applied by a stamper 2, having passages 5 through which the conductors 11 pass, while a reduced pressure is maintained in the space between the mass 31 and the mould face by connecting the chamber 27 to a suction duct. A stop 28 limits the position of the conductors 11 which are joined at 18 to stay wires 17. The resulting device consists in a disc with a projecting part of smaller diameter, which can be of much greater length than previous devices <PICT:0961420/C1/1> and may cover the junctions 18, the thickness 33 between the conductors 11 and glass surface being less than 0.5 mm. in a device in which the volume of the glass is less than 200 c. mms.
