961,372. Moulding pipe wipers. BETTIS RUBBER CO. May 30, 1962, No. 20792/62. Heading B5A. [Also in Division E1] A reinforced deformable annular drill pipe wiper, is made by spreading apart the ends of a metal spring 40, moulding an annulus of rubberlike material about the spring to form an insert 60, moulding a second annulus of softer rubberlike material about the insert, and splitting the annular body so formed between the ends of the spring. The spring is held in a mould 50 by pins 52 whilst synthetic rubber is introduced to form the insert. One or more inserts are held in a further mould (not shown) whilst the softer material is moulded about the insert or inserts to form the body.
