961,167. Hop-stripping machines. PERSONENVENNOOTSCHAP MET BEPERKTE AANSPRAKELIJKHEID THEMILCO. Sept. 7, 1960 [Nov. 6, 1959], No. 30778/60. Heading A1F. A hop-stripping machine includes means for sorting the strobiles from the small leaves after the stripping operations and comprises a carrier 2 extending around substantially the whole of the machine and having clamps 3 to carry the bines in zigzag manner between stripping drums 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, from which the stripped strobiles together with broken side-twigs and small leaves fall on to a conveyer 9 in the form of a netting which carries the side twigs to a discharge conveyer 24 but allows the strobiles and small leaves to fall through on to a conveyer belt 14. At the end of conveyer 14 a hop divider 27 having elastic projections smoothes down the layers of strobiles before they are fed to sorting drums 18 having suction devices 19 to draw off the small leaves and deposit them on conveyer 25. The strobiles fall on to an inclined conveyer 20 down which they roll to a discharge conveyer 26. The conveyer 20 has a rough surface which retains leaves which have not been previously eliminated and deposits them on conveyer 22. The hops divider 27 may be of rectangular or cylindrical configuration and the elastic projections may have slots or notches cut therein. A side-twig stripping device as described in Specification 961,166 may be incorporated to which the side twigs from the conveyer 9 are fed.
