Abstract

961,156. Tyre bead construction. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Nov. 22, 1960 [Dec. 5, 1959], No. 41389/59. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre has each bead wire 12 surmounted by an apex strip 13 which is reinforced by an annular strip 14 of parallel steel cord fabric wrapped therearound so that its side edges 16, 17 lie radially inwardly of the folded portion 18 of the strip. As shown applied to a tyre built on a high crown former and having an inner lining 7 and a single carcase ply 9 of 90 degrees parallel steel cords, the ply edge 10 is turned up around the bead core 12 and apex strip 13 and the axially outer wing 17 of the reinforcement strip is then turned down thereover. The edge 8 of the lining 7 is then turned out over the reinforcement edge and the tyre carcase completed by the application of the sidewall rubber 19 and chafer strip 20.
