Abstract

A porcelain enamelling frit consists essentially of, by weight percentages, SiO2 40-80; Na2O and/or K2O 10-20; B2O3 0-5; F2\t 0-14; ZrO2 0-10; V2O5 0-10; CaO 0-10; Li2O 0-5; TiO2 0-10; Fe2O3 0-5; Al2O3 0-5; CoO 0-2; NiO 0-2; MnO 0-10; Mo2O3 0-10; BaO 0-12, the ingredients other than silica and alkali oxides being sufficient to give an acid resistant material capable of being fired at a temperature of 1550 DEG F. to 1650 DEG F. to form an enamel. Preparation of the frit is disclosed and it can be used, particularly for coating sheet steel, as a direct application or over a dried ground coat.
