A cable maker in the form of a hollow cylindrical member has opposite ends formed to corresponding male and female profiles so that several such markers may be interfitted along a cable preventing relative rotation. In the embodiment a deformable axial rib 12 formed in the wall of the marker enables the marker to grip cables in a range of sizes.
