Abstract

959,948. Roller bearing cages. SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN A.B. June 13, 1960 [June 27, 1959], No. 20715/60. Heading F2A. A cage for a cylindrical roller bearing comprises two annular members interconnected by roller separating pins of constant cross-sectional diameter. The bearing, Figs. 1a, 1b comprises a cage having rings 14 at the ends of rollers 13, separated by parallel pins 16 of equal hardness and surface finish as that of the rollers, at a pitch circle diameter less than that of the rollers the distance between adjacent pins being less than the diameter of the rollers. Rivets 17 may be provided, and the holes in the rings 14 may be blind. The rings may be made from sheet metal, upset to locate the pins, or the rings 84, Fig. 8a, may be spaced by a sheet metal cylinder 87 having pockets for the rollers, with the rollers engaging riveted pins 86. In a modification, pins 96, Fig. 2b, are secured to rings 94 by upsetting the latter at 93, into engagement with grooves 95 in the pins. In a further modification, Fig. 4a. roller separating pins 46 are located approximately at the roller pitch circle diameter, and rivets 47, and rotatable flattened pins 45 are located inwardly of the pitch circle diameter, to allow removal of individual rollers. In a still further modification, Fig. 5b, the pins 56 are secured to the rings 54 by welding or adhesive, and each roller is pressed against a flange of the outer race 51 by a resilient upset 55, on the rings, acting on different ends of alternate rollers. In the above example, the cage is centred by the outer race, but it may be centred by the inner race, in which case roller separating pins may be in the form of tubes carried by rivets, spaced outwardly of the roller pitch circle diameter, or the cage may be centred by the rollers, Fig. 7a, wherein the rings 74 are made of wire welded to pins 76, 76<SP>1</SP> of different diameters.
