Abstract

A suitable solution of an anthraquinone is fed to hydrogenator 1 by downcomer 2 under the pressure of hydrogen introduced at 10. Excess hydrogen is recycled to line 10 via pump 13 and liquid trap 12, while the hydrogenated liquor passes to filter unit 4 leaving by line 5. An unfiltered portion sweeps the catalyst from the filter 7 and returns it with fresh feed or recycle after its hydrogen peroxide extraction step. The feed line need not be a downcomer or a single line while the downcomer can have swirl vanes to assist gas dispersion. All of the gas need not be introduced into the liquid feed line. <PICT:0959583/C1/1>
