Abstract
959,503. Air space cables. K. A. ZOHRER. Feb. 19, 1962 [Feb. 17, 1961], No. 6398/62. Heading H1A. [Also in Division D1] Hollow spacers 5 for a H.F. conductor 2 are made from an insulating tube extruded on to the conductor, by constricting the tube at intervals and inflating the tube parts between the constrictions inside a mould. The conductor 2 is drawn from a drum 1 through an extrusion head 3, fed by thermo-plastics material, where it is surrounded by the tube and enters a hollow mould 4 which opens and closes intermittently and seals the tube on to the conductor. At the same time air enters inlet 6 so as to inflate the tube between constructions against the walls of the mould, thus giving if any desired configuration, Figs. 3-7 (not shown). Alternatively, suction may be applied through tube 6 to the interior wall of the mould 4. Coloured spacers can be produced by employing appropriate plastics material. Two moulds may be employed, movable in the direction of the wire to provide a continuous process.
