Abstract
958,875. Flexible tubes. AIR REDUCTION CO. Inc. Feb. 14, 1963 [Feb. 15, 1962], No. 6085/63. Heading F2P. A flexible tube comprises plastic strip 1 of channel cross-section wound helically with its flanges 3 outwards and contiguous and a second similar strip 4 wound with its flanges 6 inwards overlying and bonded to the outwardly directed flanges 3. The bonding may be by heat or by an adhesive. One or more layers of a plastic tape 8 may be wound over the second strip to bridge the convolutions whereby it forms external corrugations 9. The convolutions beneath the tape may be filled with a foamed elastomer 11 which may be introduced as a premoulded strip or formed in situ. A strengthening wire or electrical conductor 15 may be moulded into the first channel as shown in Fig. 8. If two conductors are necessary, the tube may be wound as a double helix 12, 13. Suitable plastics mentioned are polyvinylchloride, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, polypropylene and ethylene-ethyl-acrylate.
