Abstract

A process for the continuous manufacture of foamed glass objects e.g. plates or sheets comprises pressing foamed glass pellets or nodules the surfaces at least being at softening temperature whereby the pellets or nodules coalesce. The pellets may be fed in a layer on to a conveyer (belt and/or suitable pressing moulds) and subjected to pressure by means of rollers, press or reciprocating stamping machine. The pellets may be fed hot on to the conveyer or heated on the conveyer. The mechanical strength and heat insulation capacity of the final product is modified by varying the thickness or density of the surface layer and by controlling the dimensions of the pellets and method of pressing, or by vibrating the pellets on the conveyer before pressing.
