[Also in Division B8] Sand for road making is discharged from hopper 1 by the reciprocation of shaker 11 which discharges the sand from the hopper past pivoted flap 3, the shaking movement being transmitted to shaker 11 from a motor driven crank via shaft 20 and link 12. Flap 3 is adjusted by handle 5a. The amplitude of shaker 11 is adjusted by the handle shown drives screw 16, the screw being connected by nut to link 12. Each adjustment, which may be effected by motor instead of by hand, adjusts in turn a potentiometer; and the two potentiometers are included in an electrical circuit to indicate at a remote point the rate of discharge of material from the hopper (e.g. in the control van of the road-making equipment).
