A silo tower 1 for green fodder is emptied through a central aperture 8 in its base 2 and includes a chain cutter comprising a chain 3 carrying offset knives 13, the chain 3 being circulated about an idling gear-wheel 11 and a gear-wheel 10 carried by a bushing 4 driven by a motor 6 through a worm gear 5 and being rotated on a central rotary shaft 9 driven by a motor 7.
