Abstract

956,601. Boring earth &c. DISTINGTON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 7, 1962 [July 14, 1961], No. 25591/61. Heading E1F. A cutter head comprising a plurality of concentric cutter members and hammers adapted to deliver blows to the rock remaining between kerfs cut by the members to break it from the virgin rock. Arms 22, 25 carry cutters 24 and hammers 11, the arms rotating at different speeds. The hammers are actuated by fluid, and are prevented from reciprocating where the kerf is broken by spring pressed wheels running ahead of the cutters and controlling valves in the fluid supplies of the hammers.
