Abstract

956,397. Roofs; roof sheeting. KIN'S DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. July 12, 1962 [July 22, 1961], No. 21028/61. Headings E1B and E1V. A strip 18 of resilient material, for example of solid, expanded or foamed rubber or of solid or expanded neoprene is bonded in sealing relationship with the upper surface of a first roofing panel 11 and is compressed between the panel 11 and a second overlapping panel 10 to form a weather-excluding seal between the panels. The strip 18 may be bonded to the surface of the panel 10. The overlapping panel 10 is urged towards the panel 11 to secure the panels and to compress the strip 18 by means of nuts screwed on to, or caps clinched on to, the upper reduced ends 24, Fig. 2, of studs 22 welded to the purlins. Resilient washers may be provided on the studs 22 on each face of the panel 10. The longitudinal edges of adjacent panels also overlap and are secured together by screws. Sealing strips may be provided between such overlapping longitudinal edges. The strip 18 may be formed with portions of reduced thickness to lie along the inclined sides of the troughs 14, and may also be preformed to allow for the extra thickness of the panels at the intersection of transverse and longitudinal joints of four overlapping panels. When made of solid rubber the strips may be extruded with a TT shaped cross section. An alternative fixing for the panels, not illustrated, comprises vertical transverse apertured plates secured to the underside of the upper panels which are engaged by hook members secured to the purlins, the arrangement being such that as the panels are slid longitudinally into position, a camming action exerted by hook members causes the required pressure between overlapping panels. In another alternative construction panels are each formed by a corrugated sheet with a flat sheet of slightly larger superficial dimensions welded on top of it, but each projecting beyond the other along one transverse and one longitudinal edge. The sealing strip between adjacent panels is located between overlapping portions of the flat sheet.
