Abstract

956,181. Aerials. MARCONI CO. Ltd. Nov. 13, 1962 [April 4, 1962], No. 12951/62. Heading H4A. [Also in Division B5] A method of making a radio reflector which is curved in two planes (e.g. a parabolic reflector), and which has a reflecting surface made of copper or steel mesh embedded in an insulating material such as fibre-glass or synthetic resin comprises the steps of making a former corresponding closely to the required shape, making a plurality of similarly shaped diametrical strips S1-S6 of the mesh, each having a central hole H and each of substantially less width at its centre than at its ends, the sides of each strip being curved such that each mesh strip will lie flat on the former, slightly overlapping the strips as shown, tensioning the strips as indicated by the arrows on the strip 54 and building up the surface of the strips with the embedding material to form a substantially self-supporting structure before removing the former.
