Abstract

Stable pharmaceutical preparations, e.g. creams, ointments, ear-, nose-, and eyedrops and nasal sprays comprising 6-halo prednisones or their carboxylic acid esters, e.g. with aliphatic acids of 1-12 carbon atoms or aromatic or aryl-aliphatic carboxylic acids, are prepared by dissolving the steroid in an oil which is then emulsified with an aqueous medium to give either an oil-in-water or water-in-oil emulsion. Preferred oils consists of a mixture of castor oil and one or more of ethyl oleate, ethyl recinoleate and isopropyl myristate. The aqueous phase of the emulsions may comprise other medicaments, e.g. an antibiotic, antihistaminic, vasoconstrictor, antiseptic or local anaesthetic, those specified being procaine hydrochloride, tripelennamine, phenylephrine and neomycin sulphate.
