667,010. Medicines for injection. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP ORGANON. Feb. 3, 1950 [Feb. 18, 1949], No. 2885/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 81 (i). A medicine for injection is prepared from a sparingly water-soluble or water-insoluble drug by making an aqueous emulsion of a solution of the drug in an organic solvent, the solvent having a great dissolving capacity for the drug but a limited solubility in aqueous liquids although far exceeding that of the drug, and the concentration of the drug in the solvent being such that on dilution of the emulsion with water a separation of the drug in solid form occurs. Specified drugs are testosterone propionate, progesterone, desoxycorticosterone or its acetate, oestradiol benzoate, and stilboesterol. Specified organic solvents are benzyl alcohol, mixtures of benzyl alcohol with salol or thymol, mixtures of salol and thymol, and mixtures of camphor with salol, thymol or menthol. Emulsifying agents such as polyoxy alkylene derivatives of hexitol mono-esters of higher fatty acids, sodium longchain alkylsulphates, triethanol aminocaseinate and Turkey red oil may be added. These emulsions may be sterilized by heat in the ampoules containing them. The order in which the components of the emulsion are mixed may be varied. Specification 417,715 is referred to.
