Abstract

Curable compositions comprise a polyepoxide and 2-50% of its weight, of an organoborane curing agent of formula R3B; NaR1 4B; or <FORM:0955873/C3/1> in which formulae, R is aryl, alkaryl or haloaryl; R1 is alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms or phenyl, and R11 and R111 are alkyl of 2-3 carbon atoms with or without alkyl, halogen or haloalkyl substituents. Conventional additives may be included in the compositions. Examples describe the curing of mixtures containing as polyepoxide, one of epoxidized polybutadiene, the ester of 2-methyl-4, 5-epoxy-1 hydroxymethyl-cyclohexane and 2-methyl-4, 5-epoxy cyclohexan-1-carboxylic acid, epoxidized soya bean oil, and a glycidyl polyether of bisphenol A, and, as curing agent, one of triphenyl borane, tri-a -naphthyl borane, tris-(p-tolyl) borane, tris-(2, 4-dichlorophenyl) borane, sodium tetraphenyl boron, sodium tetraisopropyl boron, sodium tetraisoamyl boron, sodium tetraphenyl-boron, 1-(-g phenylpropyl)-1-boratetralin, 1-(b -phenylpropyl) -1- bora -3- methylindane, 1-(b -phenylethyl)-1-bora-indane, and 1-(g -bromo-b -phenylpropyl)-1-bora-3-(bromoethyl) indane.
