Abstract

A pharmaceutical preparation for oral or parenteral administration in the treatment of pernicious anaemia comprises at least one cobalamin and at least one L-amino acid or mixed DL-amino acid. Any physiologically active form of cobalamin may be used, e.g. cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin or nitritocobalamin. Specified L-amino acids are glutamic acid, aspartic acid, glycine, valine, proline, arginine, cysteine, serine, alanine, leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, lysine, histidine, threonine, tryptophane, tyosine, methionine and mixtures thereof; mixtures of glutamic acid and aspartic acid being preferred. The weight for weight ratio of amino acid to cobalamin is between 1 : 1 and 20 : 1. The preparation may be used orally, e.g. in aqueous solution or as tablets; or parenterally, e.g. in sterile water.
