Abstract

955,674. Resilient supports, e.g. for containers. MICROCELL Ltd. Sept. 15, 1961 [June 16, 1960], No. 21269/60. Heading F2S. [Also in Division B8] A shock-proof mounting for a mass within a supporting structure comprises at least three double-acting shock absorbers having three degrees of freedom of clamped movement, the axes of which are mutually at right angles, the shock absorbers being articulately connected between the mass and the surrounding structure. Fig. 2 shows the simplest arrangement in which three identical double-acting shock absorbers X, Y, Z are symmetrically disposed, mutually at right angles and radially from a spherical body to the centres of the corresponding mutually perpendicular sides A, B, C, D; A, D, E, H; and D, C, F, E of a rectangular supporting structure A-H. Any of the shock absorbers could be replaced by a number of double-acting shock absorbers having the same resultant line of resistance. As shown in Fig. 1, in order to save space, twelve double-acting shock absorbers are employed to support, within a rectangular supporting structure 8, a rectangular packing case 9 between the corners 11, 22, 16, 19 and 24, 33, 26, 38 of the end faces of which and the respective corners 13, 21, 15, 18 and 30, 34, 28, 37 of the corresponding ends of the supporting structure 9 are connected double-acting shock absorbers 10, 20, 14, 17 and 35, 32, 31, 36 respectively which, with four more double-acting shock absorbers 25, 27, 23, 29 connected respectively between the corners 22, 26, 19, 24 of the ease 9 and the corners 28, 21, 30, 18 of the supporting structure 8, extend approximately in the planes of the case 9. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), six obliquely-arranged double-acting shock absorbers are connected between certain of the corners of the supporting structure 8 and the ease 9 there being no shock absorbers extending from one pair of diagonally-opposed corners of the supporting structure and the corresponding adjacent corners of the packing case. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), six double-acting shock absorbers extend from the centres of the faces of the packing case to certain of the corners of the supporting structure. Specification 948,822 is referred to.
