Abstract

955,638. Magnetic amplifiers. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. April 11, 1962 [April 13, 1961], No. 14019/62. Heading H3B. [Also in Division H2] Saturable reactors 8, 9, 10, Fig. 1, connected between a three-phase supply R.S.T. and rectifiers 1-6 are directly controlled by alternating current derived from the supply over a star-startransformer 20, the control currents being applied to the control windings 8b, 9b, 10b, over respective non-saturable inductors 17, 18, 19, and the winding currents being determined by shunt circuits each comprising a non-contactmaking relay 11-13 in series with a resistor 14-16. The phase relationship between the control circuit and the main windings 8a, 9a, 10a, is so arranged that when a relay 11-13 is open, the alternating voltage applied to the associated control winding attains a peak value at or near the mid-point of the 60 degrees cyclic period during which no working current passes through the main winding. It is arranged that the relays when open, the non-saturable inductors, and the resistors have respective impedance values which decrease in that order, the resistors being provided to prevent current short-circuits due to the effect of the main windings in the control windings. The non- contact-making relays may comprise auto-selfexcited parallel transductors, Fig. 2a (not shown), four-layer semi-conductors, Fig. 2c, or thyratrons, Fig. 2b (not shown), arranged in parallel opposition in the manner shown for the semi-conductors. In a modification the separate control and main windings may be replaced by a single winding in each reactor.
