Abstract

1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoro-2-bromopropane is obtained by reacting sulphur tetrafluoride with a compound XCOCHBrCOX1, where X and X1 are hydroxyl, halogen, amino or -OR radicals, where R is C1-5 alkyl; or, if possible, with a salt thereof. Acid-reacting catalysts, e.g. HF and BF3, may be present. Specification 823,336 is referred to.
