954,988. Rotary joints. B. F. GOODRICH CO. Sept. 7, 1960, No. 26186/61. Divided out of 954,987. Heading F2G. In an annular rotatable connector joining two adjacent annular parts 44, 45 of an inflatable suit, annular concentric radially spaced outer and inner race members 80, 79 have in the facing, overlapping surfaces thereof opposed races in which are seated ball-bearings 81 permitting rotation between the race members, the two parts of the suit being secured, in airtight fashion, to the radially outer and inner surfaces of the outer and inner race members respectively, these surfaces being inclined to the rotational axis of the connector at an acute angle such that the parts are urged towards these surfaces by inflation of the suit, whilst the bearings 81 are arranged to act on the race members, on inflation of the suit, in directions inclined to the plane of the connector so that axial separation of the two race members by the inflation is resisted. The connector includes an annular sealing member 84 carried in airtight fashion within one of the annular parts of the suit by one race member and extending across the gap between the race members to engage the other member in air-tight fashion to provide a seal but to permit of relative rotation between the race members.
