An upper garment such as a jacket comprises a body part having sleeves mounted in armhole openings by a tuck-like bellows insert H made of two pieces of fabric normally disposed inwardly of the garment, each insert including a first peripheral edge attached to the inner peripheral marginal edge of a sleeve and a second peripheral edge attached to the peripheral marginal edge of the armhole opening such that the whole of the inner marginal edge of a sleeve can be moved outwardly away from the armhole by drawing part of the tuck into and through the armhole, elastic means being provided to urge the insert into retracted position within the body part of the garment. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 elastic means comprise elastic strips each connected at one end to the inner margin of the bellows H, the lower strip 51, front strip (not shown) and optional upper strip 70 having their other ends secured to the garment at 55, 74, the back strip 61 being secured at its other end to the other bellows K. In the embodiment of Fig. 8, the inner margins of the bellows H 1 , K 1 are secured to an elastic lining R stitched to the garment at its front edges 105, 107 and optionally at the neck 109.
