Abstract

<PICT:0953984/C3/1> An electro-sparking apparatus, particularly for providing a hard metal coating on a workpiece, comprises a rotating electrode 1 with a cylindrical working surface, mounted on a shaft 2 through which the sparking energy is supplied and vibrated transversely by means 5. The electrode is rotated through flexible shaft 6 by a motor 8 and reduction gear 7. Sparking current is supplied to a member 9 such as a slip ring or a mercury contact. An electromagnet 5 acts through a stirrup 4 to vibrate the electrode. In other embodiments the vibrator acts directly on the shaft 6 or on an armature carried thereby. Examples are given for coating steel or nickel workpieces with titanium and tungsten carbide, cobalt, chromium, tungsten and carbon. Specification 777,335 is referred to.
