Abstract
Materials of polyolefins, especially textile materials comprising stereoregular polypropylene, are dyed by applying a water-insoluble monoazo dyestuff of the formula <FORM:0953719/D1-D2/1> wherein A is the residue of a diazo component, B is a 1:4-arylene radical which may bear substituents other than -SO3H and -COOH, R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical and R2 is an alkyl radical, provided that the total number of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 is not less than 7. The term "alkyl radical" includes substituted alkyl radicals, for example b -methoxyethyl, b -cyanoethyl, b -acetoxyethyl, and b -ethoxycarboxylethyl. The specified 1:4-arylene radicals are 1:4-phenylene and 1:4-napthylene which may be substituted with methyl, ethyl, trifluoromethyl, chlorine, bromine, methoxy and ethoxy radicals. The dyes may be applied as solutions in an organic solvent but they are preferably applied as aqueous dispersions which may further contain anionic, non-ionic or cationic dispersants, e.g. sulphonated naphthalene-formaldehyde condensates, ethylene oxide-fatty alcohol condensates or cetyl trimethylammonium chloride. Dyeing may be accomplished at 65-100 DEG C. or at 100-125 DEG C. at superatmospheric pressure and may be followed by rinsing and soaping. Examples are given in which numerous dyestuffs are specified.
