Abstract

A composition for the treatment of trees comprises an oil-in-water emulsion having dispersed therein a plant growth regulant which will stimulate the yield of valuable exudates from trees, e.g. rubber latex, having a systemic or contact action, the proportion of agent and emulsion being so chosen that the composition consists of a paste of such consistency as to be applied to the plant by smearing or under pressure in the form of a ribbon. The composition may be contained in a collapsible tube. Specified plant growth regulants are the halogenated nuclear substituted phenoxy fatty acids or their amides, salts or esters such as the aryl esters of 2,4,5-tri- and 2,4-di-chlorophenoxy acetic acid.ALSO:A composition for the treatment of plants comprises an oil in water emulsion having dispersed therein a plant growth regulant which will either (a) kill trees or parts thereof; (b) stimulate the yield of valuable exudates from trees e.g. rubber latex; (c) prune or defoliate; (e) prevent regrowth after trimming, pruning or felling; or (f) kill unwanted suckers or top growth on plants, having a systemic or contact action, the proportion of agent and emulsion being so chosen that the composition consists of a paste of such a consistency as to be applied to the plant by smearing or under pressure in the form of a ribbon. The composition may be contained in a collapsible tube. Specified plant growth regulants are the plant hormones e.g. the halogenated nuclear substituted phenoxy fatty acids or their amides, salts or esters such as the aryl esters of 2,4,5-tri and 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid.
