Abstract

953,035. Transistor sawtooth circuits. MULLARD Ltd. June 27, 1962, No. 24704/62. Heading H3T. A field time-base circuit for television apparatus comprises a sawtooth oscillator using a semi-conductor device, periodically discharging a capacitor, the residual voltage across the capacitor during each flyback period being cancelled by a backing-off voltage induced into a winding in series with the discharge circuit. The oscillator is D.C. coupled to an output transistor hence the backing-off voltage clamps the base potential of the output transistor. Fig. 2 shows two capacitors C12, C13, charged via resistor R13 and periodically discharged via a blocking oscillator comprising transistor T1 and feed-back transformer Lb1, Lb2. The sawtooth voltage across the capacitors is passed via an optional emitter follower T2 to an amplifier T3 coupled to field deflection coils Ly via capacitor Cy. A flyback pulse induced into winding Lb3 cancels the residual voltage across the blocking oscillator T1 and clamps the base voltage of T3. Lb3 could alternatively be connected in the emitter circuit of T1. The frequency of the blocking oscillator T1 is stabilized by a negative-temperature coefficient resistor R2 as described in Specification 896,024. The output is linearized by feed-back via R16. Further feed-back may be provided via a capacitor and resistor (not shown) in series, connected between the emitter of T2 and the junction of C1, R1. Transistor T1 may be replaced by a controlled PNPN device fed from a stabilized voltage derived from T3 as described in Specification 924,260. Specification 935,722 also is referred to.
