Abstract
Linear polybutadiene having a predominantly cis-1, 4, configuration is made by polymerizing butadiene in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (a) an organometallic iodide of a metal of Group II, or III, of the Mendel<\>aeeff Periodic Systems and (b) a titanium halide in which the valency of titanium is less than 4. The catalyst may be preformed and the polymerization is generally effected in an inert purified hydrocarbon diluent. The exemplified catalyst system is violet titanium trichloride and diethyl aluminium iodide. Specifications 834,554, 835,752, 845,200, 854,615 and 873,046 are referred to.
