952,831. Adjusting position of vehicle controls. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. Nov. 23, 1960 [Jan. 15, 1960], No. 41182/59. Headings B7G and B7H. An adjustable pedal control for vehicles such as aircraft and tracked vehicles comprises a pair of pedals rotatably mounted on a hollow shaft and interconnected by links and a rocker member, the hollow shaft being movable to suit the user's leg reach, and being retained in a selected position by remotely operated locating means, interaction between pedal control and adjustment of the shaft being eliminated. Fig. 1 is a view looking rearwardly, Fig. 2 a plan view partly in section, and Fig. 3 a side view of a pedal installation. The two pedal levers 1, and two swinging links 3, are pivotally mounted on a hollow shaft 2. Within shaft 2 are two bearing members 6 each of which may extend through any of an associated set of holes 30 in fixed structure 5, there being one set of holes for each bearing member disposed in a circular arc centred on the fixed pivot 4 of the adjacent swinging link 3. The swinging links are urged towards the user by resilient means 24. The members 6, Fig. 2, are withdrawable from holes 30 against the bias of springs 12 by arms 7 connected to a crank-shaft 8, journalled in shaft 2 and operable by the user through an arm 9 and cable 10, Fig. 1. On withdrawing members 6, the user can push both pedals away, or allow them to be drawn nearer by resilient means 24, and then release members 6, which are then inserted into a new pair of holes 30 by springs 12. In an aircraft, the pedal levers 1 control the rudder through rods 13 connected to a rocking lever 14 on a torque shaft 15. A pulley 21 is mounted on an arm 16 on shaft 15, and a control cable 22 passes from a fixed anchorage 23, round pulley 21, to the rudder. A rod 20 connects the two arms 16 of duplicate control apparatus.
