Abstract

952,419. Straps and bands. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Feb. 19, 1962, No. 6386/62. Heading A4X. A binding strap 33 for packages &c. is formed of a polymeric fibre forming material such as polypropylene having its molecules oriented longitudinally of the strap, the strap having longitudinally extending thick portions 34 and thin portions 35 alternating transversely thereof. In a method of making the strap molten polypropylene is extruded from a hopper 10 through a rectangular orifice into a brine bath 11 in a tank 12 maintained at a low temperature, the band 13 formed being led about a roller 14 and driven shaping rolls 15, 16 over an adjustable roller 17 and transfer roller 18 into a warm water bath 19 and thence via guide rollers 21, 22 to low speed draw roll 23 and nip roll 24 and then between a high speed draw roll 25 and nip roll 26.
