Glass, having a refractive index 1.50 to 1.60, used for the manufacture of glass beads comprises in percentages by weight over 65 to 66 SiO2; 5-12 B2O3; 16-19 Na2O; 1-4 K2O and/or Li2O; 4-6 CaO; 0-3 MgO and 1-3 Al2O3 and/or Fe2O3. When Fe2O3 is present Se may be added as a decoloriser. U.S.A. Specification 2,730,841 is referred to.
