Abstract

A resinous coating composition, suitable for coating concrete comprises a binding agent together with an inert filler, said binding agent consisting of a fluid epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent weight of from 140 to 300, an amino amide curing agent which is the reaction product of a fatty acid, polymeric fatty acid or epoxidised fatty acid and an alkylene polyamine, for said epoxy resin, and an extender derived from asphalt or coal tar. Specified epoxy resins are those derived from polyfunctional halohydrins and polyhydric phenols, a bis-phenol. A-epichlorohydrin reaction product being exemplified. Many curing agents are specified, those exemplified being derived from polymerized fatty acids and triethylene tetramine; unsaturated fatty acids and tetraethylene pentamine and methyl epoxy stearate and tetraethylene pentamine. Specified fillers are sand, pea gravel, clay, granite chips, quartzite and glass beads. Diluents, plasticizers and catalysts e.g. 2:4:6-tri-(dimethyl-aminomethyl) phenol may be present in the compositions. Specification 865,284 is referred to.ALSO:In Example 2, stone blocks are coated by trowelling with compositions comprising an epoxy resin derived from bis-phenol-A and epichlorhydrin, sand, coal tar and: (1) and (2) a reaction product of polymerized fatty acids with triethylene tetramine, and 2 : 4 : 6-tri(dimethyl amino methyl) phenol and (3) and (4) a reaction product of polymerized fatty acids with triethylene tetramine.
