Abstract

951,478. Supplying power to the crabs of travelling cranes. GREENGATE & IRWELL RUBBER CO. Ltd. Sept. 20, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961; Feb. 16, 1962], Nos. 33774/61 and 6076/62. Heading B8B. Electric current is supplied to a crab A<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, of an overhead travelling crane by cables A which are supported by belts B, Fig. 1. Opposite ends of the cables are attached to junctionboxes A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>4</SP>, Fig. 2, respectively, on the crab and the crane bridge A<SP>3</SP>. Wooden blocks c, c<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>2</SP>, c<SP>3</SP> are clamped round a pair of belts B, the blocks c<SP>2</SP>, c<SP>3</SP> forming a channel c<SP>6</SP> which receives the cables A. The sides of the blocks are inclined, Fig. 3, the angle of inclination determining the radius of curvature of the belt. The belts are reinforced by wires b which are clamped to the crab and the bridge adjacent the junctionboxes A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>4</SP>. Since the cables are carried on the central axis of the belt no slack is required. The cables may be carried underneath the belt in which case slack is provided. Fluids may be supplied to the crab by substituting flexible pipes for the cables.
