A contact printing screen comprises identical congruent groups of light transmitting faces, each group consisting of congruent faces arranged in subgroups of different neutral optical densities; all the faces have the same area. Preferably, the densities of the various faces from an arithmetical series, and the logarithm of the relative number of faces having a given density is a linear function of the density. The faces may be triangles squares, or hexagons. The screen may be formed photographically.
