Abstract
949,517. Photo-electric exposure control. AGFA A.G. Oct. 24, 1961 [Oct.28, 1960], No.38095/61. Addition to 878,102. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G2] The device of the parent Specification for timing the exposure of photographic material is modified in that the means for varying the potential on an electrode of a valve in dependence upon the Schwarzschild coefficient of the photographic material comprise at least two resistance-capacity components, the capacitors thereof being connected in series. During exposure the photo-cell 28 charges a condenser 27 until the thyratron grid 37 rises to the potential of cathode 29, firing the valve to energize a relay 23 which extinguishes the printing lamp or operates a shutter. The cathode potential is the algebraic sum of the tapping potential of potentiometer 51 and the potential on condensers 32. The switches 23c, 23d are opened at the start of exposure and condensers 32, 34 charge to vary the cathode potential. The charing rate and the charging voltage are set by setting resistors 33, 35 and potentiometers 46,47 which are coupled to potentiometer 51, to allow for any particular Schwarzschild coefficient. Differences in spectral sensitivity of photo-cell and film may be corrected in the same way. The invention may be applied to X-ray photography and to colour printers employing simultaneous exposures by providing three timing devices or employing sequential exposure by providing means for automatically setting the timer in accordance with the Schwarzschild coefficient of each photosensitive layer. Specifications 817,277 and 863,606 also are referred to.
