Abstract

948,917. Feeding expanded polystyrene beads to moulds. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE POUR LA RAYONNE S.A. Feb. 11, 1960, No. 4833/60. Heading B5A. Expanded polystyrene beads suspended in water are fed from lower 1 to upper reservoir 2, and from there to mixers 14 of the Venturi type, the feed and the supply of high pressure water being controlled by valves 8, 13 and 4, 6, 11, 17, 18, respectively. The polystyrene/water mixture is fed to distributing valves 20 which in conjunction with apertured diaphragm 24 causes and control the filling of the moulds 21. When the moulds are full, valves 20, 13 are closed and water from the high pressure system 16 continues to flush the suspended polystyrene from valves 20 and back into lower reservoir 1. The moulds 21 are mounted on plates 26, 27 and are brought together by hydraulic means, the polystyrene being compressed and steam-baked before the press is released and the moulded articles ejected.
