Abstract
947,956. Nitro-substituted polyurethanes. AEROJET-GENERAL CORPORATION. Feb. 5, 1962 [Feb. 7, 1961], No. 4415/62. Heading C3R. A nitro-substituted polyurethane is made by condensing an alkylene diisocyanate, a nitroalkylene diisocyanate, a nitraza alkylene diisocyanate, a nitraza nitroalkylene diisocyanate or mixtures thereof with a dialkoxy nitraza alkylene diol, a dihydroxyalkyl oxamide or mixtures thereof. The term nitraza is defined as being -N(NO 2 )-. The reaction is preferably effected in a solvent e.g. dioxane, dimethyl formamide, butyrolactone and acetone and in the presence of a catalyst e.g. boron trichloride, boron trifluoride etherate and ferric acetyl acetonate. Cross-linking agents e.g. glycerol, triols, polyisocyanates, trimethylol propane and tris-(hydroxy-methyl) nitromethane and plasticisers e.g. 4-nitraza pentanonitrile and 2:2-dinitropropyl-4- nitraza pentanoate may be present in the reaction mixture. Many diisocyanates and diols are specified. In the examples, polyurethanes are made from 3 :3-dinitropentane-1 :5-diisocyanate and :-(I) 5:7:9:11-tetranitro-5 :7:9:11 -tetra-aza- 3:13-oxy-1 :15-pentadecane diol; (II) 5:7:9-trinitro-5:7:9-triaza-3:11 -oxy-1:13-tridecane diol and (III) N:N-bis (2-hydroxyethyl) oxamide.
