An auxiliary indicator is operatively associated with, but spaced apart from, a cash register which includes an indicating, printing, and data-storing mechanism and an adding mechanism comprising a plurality of differentially settable sliding members for the various digit denominations and an equal number of rows of keys forming the keyborad, the sliding members being mechanically linked to movable contacts so as to control the auxiliary indicator. In a first embodiment a contact 35 on a lever 34 engages a selected one of stationary contacts 36, and is synchronized with the movement of a slide member 21, movable by means not shown through a distance proportional to the number to be added into the machine by depression of a number key such as 29. Contacts 36 are connected by leads 37 to one of a series of indicator lamps 39. Lever 34 is secured to one end of shaft 33 having at its other end a lever 32 which is engaged by a pin 31 on an extension 27 of a lever 25 which is linked to a printing sector plate 26. Integral with slide member 21 is a member 23 having a slot engaging a stud 24 on lever 25. When lever 34 has moved to the desired position, a pin 43 on lever 34 is held in a corresponding recess 42 in a lever 40, fixed to a shaft 41, by means of a spring 44 which urges lever 40 downwardly. Immediately prior to the next operation, a cam member, not shown, or shaft 41 raises lever 40 to disengage pin 43 and recess 42 and a spring 45 returns lever 34 to its initial position. In a second embodiment the levers 34 operate, through links similar to 25, additional sectors, coaxial with print sectors 26, which carry contacts moving over printed-circuit contact plates connected to the remote indicating lamps.
