Abstract

946,791. Frequency discriminators. A. C. COSSOR Ltd. Jan. 23, 1962 [Feb. 10, 1961], No. 5088/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading H3A. An oscillator applies waves of constant amplitude through a directional coupler to two paths differing in electrical length by about 1000# and connected to a device, e.g. slotted waveguide, producing a standing wave pattern, so that a probe with crystal detector adjustable along the slot to a position, e.g. half way between a node and antinode, produces a D.C. output indicating and stabilizing the frequency of the oscillator. The longer path may include two slow-wave helices and a non-phase shifting travelling wave tube amplifier; the shorter path may include a variable attenuator to equalize the two power inputs to the waveguide. The oscillator may be a klystron with the A.F.C. voltage applied to its reflected electrode, or an oscillator with a resonant cavity variably tuned.
